چکیده

In this paper, we study 2D cylindrical Positron Emission Tomography (2D PET) sampling. We show that rectangular sampling schemes are more efficient than usual square schemes. 1. PET and sampling 1.1 PET The aim of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is to map the internal nuclear activity of a patient from exterior measurement. Usually, the patient received some nuclear substance by inhalation or injection. In PET this substance is tagged with a radioactive isotope, such as Carbon-11, Fluorine-18, Oxygen-15. This substance has also chemical and biological properties that enable to visualize metabolism and functions of patient organs (such as blood flow). This substance, called radiotracer, emits a positron per decay. The positron annihilates with an electron, which results in the emission of two opposite gamma rays detected in a PET system. Thanks to detectors surrounding the patient and a powerful electronic processing, coincident photon pairs can be sorted, meaning that the emission occurred on the line joining both detectors.

Design and performance evaluation of spheroid geometry for brain PET scanner using Monte Carlo modeling

Introduction: There has been a curiosity about the spheroid geometry for PET scanners developments since several years ago, therefore in this study, we are aiming to evaluate the performance of this geometry and compare its performance with cylindrical geometry using Monte Carlo simulation. Methods: We simulated a spheroid geometry with a radius of 199 mm...

An Accurate 2D Analytical Model for Transconductance to Drain Current ratio (gm/Id) for a Dual Halo Dual Dielectric Triple Material Cylindrical Gate All Around MOSFETs

A dual-halo dual-dielectric triple-material cylindrical-gate-all-around/surrounding gate (DH-DD-TM-CGAA/SG) MOSFET has been proposed and an analytical model for the transconductance-to-drain current ratio (TDCR) has been developed. It is verified that incorporation of dual-halo with dual-dielectric and triple-material results in enhancing the device performance in terms of improved TDCR. The ef...

Evaluation of 2D concentrically braced frames with cylindrical dampers subjected to near-field earthquake ground motions

Near field earthquakes have imposed major damage to buildings in the past years. In some cases, the intensity of such damage is too considerable to be disregarded. The most effective way to improve seismic performance of buildings is applying a seismic control technique. The cylindrical friction damper is one of these methods, which has become popular for its desirable performance in the energy...

Design of a very high-resolution small animal PET scanner using a silicon scatter detector insert.

A small animal positron emission tomography (PET) instrument using a high-resolution solid-state detector insert in a conventional PET system was investigated for its potential to achieve sub-millimeter spatial resolution for mouse imaging. Monte Carlo simulations were used to estimate the effect of detector configurations (thickness, length and radius) on sensitivity. From this initial study, ...
